A really even game that flattered us really, as Greerton Rovers beat Whaktane Town 4-1. At half time the score was 0-0 with chances for both teams, and it was Whakatane who began the scoring with a far post header early in the second half, but Greerton hit back immediately, our striker, scored the first goal in a hat trick that ultimately won the game for us. I provided the assist for his third goal with a header knocked on for him to sprint on to and finish emphatically.
Next match is away to Katikati.

Veterans League
I haven't posted here for a while, but this season I have decided that the rigours of a full season are now a bridge (or should that be fridge) too far and so I am playing in the Over-35's league this season for Greerton. Our first match is this weekend against my old club Whakatane.

Frustration.... here we go again
About a month ago at my works Christmas party the staff had a bit of kick around and I foolishly played in barefeet and sprained one of the toes on my right foot. I thought it had come right, as I had been resting it, not running or doing any work on the treadmill. With 10 days to go before pre-season training begins I spent half an hour on the treadmill running, and its flared up again and is really painful.
Its very frustrating because I really wanted to avoid all the hassle I had in pre-season last year. At the age of 38 this has got me once again questioning whether its time to hang up the boots.
So its off to the doctors for an x-ray on monday. Its not actually the toes that is sore, its on the top of the foot where it connects to the toe, so maybe a strained ligament or something.

End of the Season
I will do a bigger wrap up of the season after the end of year prizegiving but Otumoetai Thirds finished up the season with a commendable 2-1 win away to Te Puke, a great effort.
I did not play as I was unavailable due to work committments.
Heres how Bay Mens Division 2 Pool B finished up:

3-0 loss at home to Old Blues FC
Otumoetai Thirds (0) 0
Old Blues FC (0) 3
Otumoetai Thirds went down 3-0 at home to Old Blues FC this weekend in their penultimate match of the season. Considering that Otumoetai had defeated Old Blues FC 3-1 in the first round one might have expected a bit more from this match, but it was a strangely lethargic performance, particularly in a second half that still had plenty to play for being goaless at the break.
In the final analysis the visitors just seemed to want it more, and once they went ahead from a tap in that result was largely beyond doubt. I played for 60 minutes, but didn't see much of the ball, our midfield struggling to make any headway. Anyway, for me this was the end of my season, as I am not available for the last match of the season, where Otumoetai are away to Te Puke.
